Description
This poster is a composite of a number of photos and images I made around 1968 and I've tried to capture some of the ambiance of the times. I was experimenting with a variety of films and techniques, especially high contrast Litho and Infrared films as well as different chemistries. The bright main character was originally a color infrared shot color inverted for here. The ones in the corners are from the same sequence with two printed onto litho stock and the other two, as well as the large central one, printed onto litho stock through a sandwich of positives and negatives and then printed onto Blueprint paper. The boy leaning with his fishing rod was printed on litho stock but developed in continuous tone developer. The fading images of Bobby Kennedy are from his campaign stop in Columbus, Ohio on May 14, 1968 - just 23 days before he was assasinated. I was fortunate to be part of the press contingent. The upper right image is a blurred frame from an anti-war protest I covered around the same time. In the background, barely visible, is another blurred frame from that same protest. The black ink line drawing in the center (inverted to white) was made by hand-drawing onto a paper lithographic offset master plate. Interestingly, that line drawing image was inadvertently printed on the back of the weekly Sunday bulletin at a local church where the congregation didn't quite know what to make of it Sunday morning! This brings back a lot of memories for me and I hope it at least intrigues you enough to explore that intensely creative period of time.
