Description
Poster capturing various moments of the Shuttle Discovery STS-103 (Hubble Servicing Mission 3A) flying over Wimberley, Texas re-entering the Earth's atmosphere on its way to landing in Florida on December 27, 1999 at 5:44 PM CST.
I was going through images from years past that I had taken and came across these that I took outside my home at the time in Wimberley, Texas. For those who were lucky enough to experience the thrill of watching a space shuttle shoot across the sky like a slow meteor, it is one of the outstanding memories in one's life that will never happen again. Although I had seen several shuttles reentries from the Wimberley area over the years, this time the lighting, time, sky, and everything else was just perfect to capture the moment. The low sunlight and approaching twilight of dusk illuminated the vehicle and the trail in a unique way that was decidedly different from the long light trail at night or the hard to see reentry during the day. I hope this evokes that thrill once again for those who witnessed it and provides a glimpse into an experience from a time now gone forever. I also made a short video about the experience which can be seen at https://youtu.be/vD6OWWaPN7I and there are more images and information at http://www.eastjesus.net/shuttle/index.html if you are interested.
